Build with AI

Everyone builds with AI. Engineers decide what ships.

Business teams build scripts, flows and apps with AI in Windmill, on your own infrastructure. Each change is built in a fork, deployed after review, and runs on the workers you assign to it.

One platform for business teams and engineers

What the AI builds is an ordinary Windmill script, flow or app, in the same workspaces engineers use. Business teams build in AI sessions in the Windmill UI. Engineers write code in 20+ languages, locally with the CLI and their coding agent, synced with Git. Both run on the fastest self-hostable orchestrator, and both go through the same review.

Choose what each team can author

A workspace role is a set of capabilities. Give members who assemble what engineers built a Compose role: they build flows and apps from deployed scripts, without code of their own. Give members who write code with AI the Write code capability, and let review and isolation protect production.

Scope what the AI can reach

The AI acts with the permissions of the person using it. Give each team a folder with only the resources and variables it needs, and save its skills and MCP connections there: they are available to that team and nobody else. Workspace instructions, editable by admins, are sent with every session.

Build in a fork, deploy after review

Each AI session can run in its own workspace fork, an isolated copy of the workspace. A protection ruleset blocks direct deployment to the shared workspace, so a change reaches it only when an engineer reviews the diff and deploys it.

Promote from dev to prod

Business teams build in a dev workspace with its own database credentials and API keys, and prod can be locked so changes only reach it through promotion. Promotion is never automatic: it goes through Compare & Deploy or a Git pull request, and per-environment values are never overwritten.

Run AI-built code on its own workers

Worker groups decide where code runs. Restrict a worker tag to the dev workspace so its jobs run on machines that only reach dev systems, send fork jobs to a dedicated pool, and add process isolation for code that has not been reviewed yet.
